Material hoppers

VÖGELE material hoppers

Genuine VÖGELE material hopper rubbers prevent material from falling in front of the machine when filling the paver with asphalt. The material hopper service packages also include all the necessary wearing parts for fast and reliable maintenance.

Hydraulic inlet flap and side front flaps

Hopper aprons

Hopper fronts, open

Hopper fronts, closed

Hopper fronts are located on each of the hopper wings and an inlet flap is located in the middle of the hopper.

After the transfer of the mix from the tipper truck to the material hopper of the paver, the operator presses the button to raise the hopper aprons or the centre inlet flap to completely empty the material hopper.

Mechanical inlet flap

Inlet flap options

Hydraulic inlet flap

In the case of hydraulic inlet flaps, the middle flap is controlled separately by a hydraulic cylinder and is raised by pressing the button on the main control panel. When the middle inlet flap is raised, the hopper aprons on the sides are lifted independently from the hopper wings.

Mechanical inlet flap

In the case of mechanical inlet flaps, only the two hopper aprons attached to the hopper wings are lifted when they are raised.

Maintenance: Inlet flap and hopper apron (side)

  • Remove all mix residues on and under the inlet flap and the hopper aprons at the sides after each paving job.
  • Check the inlet flap and the hopper aprons at the sides for smooth movement and bent or twisted parts.
  • Check the hydraulic cylinder for accumulated dirt and leakage.

Worn hopper wing rubbers

Bent hopper apron (side)

Hopper wings

The two hopper wings can be hydraulically lowered or raised independently. This ensures that the mix is always transported to the middle, onto the conveyors.

The complete emptying of the receiving hopper prevents cooling of the mix.

The rubbers attached to the hopper wings and the hopper aprons prevent mix falling out of the hopper onto the ground or the push-bar.

Maintenance of hopper wings

  • Clean the hopper wings after every job.
  • Check for smooth movement and function of the hopper wings and the adjacent hydraulic cylinder.
  • Regularly check the correct setting of the scraper plate (tight closure)

Rubbers

How to replace damaged or removed rubbers on the inlet flap and the hopper fronts.

Welding seams

Inspect welding seams on the hinge between the hopper wings and the frame for cracking and repair any cracks you find.

Underside of the hopper wings

Inspect the weld between the holder for the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder and the hopper wing for cracks and damage.

Scraper plates

Scraper plates are located on the inside of the hopper wings. They provide a seal between the hopper wings and the front bulkhead of the machine.

These scraper plates act to prevent the paving mix slipping behind, sticking and hindering the movement of the hopper wings. The gap setting should not exceed a maximum of 0.5 cm.

Adjusting the scraper plates on the hopper wings

The screws indicated by the arrows must be unscrewed to enable adjustment of the hopper scraper:

1. Position the plate at a short distance from the wall (approx 0.5 cm from the rear wall/along the red dotted line
2. Firmly tighten the screws
3. Repeat the procedure for both sides
